I want to thank all of you that checked on my family and me following the tornadoes that hit the area near my home in Rockwall, Texas on December 26. We saw the devastation that occurred just a few miles west of us via Facebook. I decided to drive through Rowlett on my way home from work a couple of days later, and the photos don’t show the astounding power storms like this truly have. While I was saddened and heartbroken for all the families affected, I saw beyond the horrific damage and noticed several trucks providing supplies to those in need. There really are amazing people all around us! Lately I’ve been working on seeing the world through a different lens focusing on the positive instead of the negative and have discovered the power this thinking holds. It helps prepare us to deal with adversity when it strikes and brings us together as a community to overcome tragedy. Rowlett will no doubt rebuild and watching the community work together will be a joy. Our response to adversity does define us as a people, and we must not let it define us negatively.
